Climate

The climate in Quebec varies greatly, due to the fact that the province covers such a huge area. Southern Québec, where most of the population lives, has a temperate, continental climate, with four distinct seasons ranging from hot summers (June to August) to cold, snowy winters with lots of rain. Spring tends to be short and mild and autumn is usually rather chilly, but is a fantastic time to travel to Québec to see the incredible changes of colour in the leaves. The central region has longer, colder winters and shorter, cooler summers, while the far north experiences a severe Arctic climate with a freezing winter and continuous permafrost. Winter can vary from five months in the south to eight months in the north, averaging between 14º and -13ºF (-10ºC and -25ºC).
