Overview Zell am See is one of the most popular Alpine resort towns in Austria. Founded by monks in the 8th century, the town is set on the picturesque Lake Zell amongst a backdrop of Alpine mountain peaks. Popular in both winter and summer, this fashionable resort has interesting buildings and museums, as well as a number of shops, restaurants, and bars. Zell am See is a trendy ski resort, with glacier and year-round skiing available on the Kitzsteinhorn. In the summer, activities like mountain climbing, golfing, tennis, horseback riding, mountain biking, boating and other outdoor pursuits are in order. The resort is family-friendly, with a number of kid-friendly venues and activities.
